Klimaatjes makes Enexit!
The temperature rises. The weather is getting more and more extreme. Climate change has consequences for the environment and people. That is why, according to the Enactus Utrecht makers of the board game ‘Klimaatjes’, it is important to make children aware of sustainability. The game playfully teaches children between the ages of 10 and 14 about climate change, the associated dilemmas and the consequences. After more than two years of working with full enthusiasm, the game will be handed over to Raccoon Serious Games from Delft, which will take the game higher.
Making an impact with a sustainable mission
“We are looking for a new owner!” That was the message from the team of Klimaatjes on LinkedIn four months ago. The team behind the board game had become more than a start-up and Enactus Utrecht, of which it was part of, had grown. In the search for a new owner, the team eventually ended up at Raccoon Serious Games. Josine Leeuwdrent, team captain of Klimaatjes, about the search for a new owner: “You want the best for your ‘baby’, which Klimaatjes had become for us. That is why we were looking for an ambitious party that also has a mission to make an impact. The match between Raccoon Serious Games and Climates was quickly made and immediately good”.
Kristel Thieme, co-founder of Raccoon Serious Games, was enthusiastic about Klimaatjes from day one and impressed by the progress they had made. “I’ve been following Climates almost from the beginning and I think it’s cool to see how far they have brought the board game,” said Thieme. “We think we can help take this game, which is already very well put together in the basics, to the next level and to scale it up to schools throughout the Netherlands.”
Climate experts of the future
The Delft company plans to create more national awareness for Climates by improving its content and by cleverly promoting it. With this they hope, just like the makers, to train the climate experts of the future.
Leeuwdrent is proud that a new owner of Klimaatjes has been found and that the transfer is official. “I have incredible confidence in Raccoon Serious Games and I will continue to closely follow what beautiful and impactful things they will do with Klimaatjes!”
In any case, Thieme is looking forward to a bright future for the game and its social value. “For us, this is the addition of a new product to our growing product portfolio of games to raise awareness about major societal transitions.”
