“Curiosity is the first step towards change.”
The Enactus Netherlands board is pleased to present our new director. “We are happy that after four years as program manager, Nancy Moorman will now be the lead of our organization. Before that she was an Enactus student for three years which makes her our own NextGen leader”. We got to know her even better by asking her some questions.
What does Enactus mean to you?
I was born and raised in a warm workingclass familly in Amsterdam and was the first one to go to University. From that day on, I have had the luxury to stand with both feet in two different worlds. When I spend time in the kitchen with refugee women each Friday during my first Enactus project Mevrouw Cous, I met Fahra. The first time she joined, her husband came with her. However in a matter of weeks she came alone and with full confidence. By seeing her world, mine opened up even more too. Something I wish for so many others to experience: look over the fence once in a while and it will surprise you how much you will learn and enjoy it yourself.
What is important to you?
Curiosity is the first step towards change and we know change is needed in this world. We can’t deny we need to work on a more social and sustainable tomorrow. Meeting each other and exchanging experiences is the way to challenge each other on those matters. I am proud that at Enactus we do not just facilitate the exchange, but that we take concrete action to it. This is where both partners, students and project-beneficiaries find value to take with them for the rest of their lives. The world does not get any better if we keep on talking, we need to roll up our sleeves and get to it.
How do you envision the future of Enactus?
I am very proud of this new role and used the last months to talk with our community. I get energy and inspiration out of the input of my board, partners colleagues and students in making great new plans. With my team I am working on a new program to facilitate the conversation between current and NextGen leaders. Next to that, the Enactus Connect platform with tools and coaching will serve to take students’ projects to the next level. If it is up to me we should be more daring as an Enactus Community. We have to share our pride and show that we make this world a better place. I will start telling our story as much as I can. So if you see me taking the stage somewhere, you know what I am doing.
